Einstein AI vs Agentforce: What's Actually Different

 "Isn't Einstein just Agentforce with a different name?" It's one of the most common points of confusion in the Salesforce ecosystem right now — understandable, since Salesforce has used the "Einstein" brand for AI features since 2016. Here's what's actually different.


Einstein: The Assistant That Waits for You

Salesforce Einstein is the umbrella name for Salesforce's long-running suite of native AI capabilities — predictive lead scoring, opportunity insights, forecasting, and generative text suggestions inside Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, and Marketing Cloud. Einstein analyzes structured CRM data and surfaces predictions or suggestions, but a human still has to review and act on them. It's a copilot, not a pilot.


Agentforce: The Agent That Acts

Agentforce is Salesforce's agentic AI layer — it doesn't just suggest, it can independently plan and execute multi-step work: resolving a support case end-to-end, updating records across objects, or triggering a workflow, all without a human approving each individual step.


Side-by-Side

  • Autonomy: Einstein is user-guided; Agentforce can act independently within the guardrails you define.

  • Data it reasons over: Einstein primarily works with structured CRM data. Agentforce, via the Atlas Reasoning Engine and Data Cloud (Data 360), can also reason over unstructured data — PDFs, call transcripts, emails, even photos.
